Chandrayaan-2 - joint expedition to the Moon with Russia approved

Government of India approved the project “Chandrayaan-2”, which is the joint expedition to the Moon with Russia.

The project provides delivery of a landing module with mobile research laboratory to the Moon and performing contact scientific experiments, as well as collecting samples for further analysis. The launch of the expedition is scheduled for 2011-2012.

Collaboration provides launch of the space ship, consisting of two modules, one of which will stay at the orbit and the other will land to the Moon and release an up-to-date lunar rover. One of the main tasks of the mobile research laboratory is performing chemical analysis for receiving data on the Moon’s mineral resources.
