Indian Space Research Organization has said that they are aiming to launch a manned mission to Moon in 2014.
They are already scheduled to launch the first unmanned mission to the moon on October 22.
ISRO is working on plans to launch the manned mission using a Geo-Synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle.
They are now working on creating a team for the manned mission to moon.
ISRO said in a statement: “Our chairman is very keen on the project getting approval. He has asked us to come out with complete proposals internally.”
MC Dathan, director, Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota Range added: “The commission has cleared the proposal and it has been submitted to the government. A high-powered committee is studying the report. It is expected to be cleared in about two months.”
Besides the Indian Space Research Organisation is planning 2nd moon mission Chandrayaan-2 in 2011. Russia's Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos) is joining with ISRO for development of Chandrayaan-2 Lander/Rover.
Chandrayaan-2 will consist of the spacecraft and a landing platform with the moon rover.
The rover would move on wheels on the lunar surface, pick up samples of soil or rocks, do a chemical analysis and send the data to the spacecraft orbiting above.
The rover will weigh between 30 kg and 100 kg, depending on whether it is to do a semi-hard landing or soft landing. The rover will have an operating life-span of a month. It will run predominantly on solar power.
